TEXT: St. John 5: 8-9, 12-14
OUTLINE: Jesus heals a man at the Bethesda Pool.
CONTENT: Mo John tells a story of a man who had an infirmity for thirty-eight years. As he was
accustomed the man went to the pool of Bethesda, a pool known for its healing when an angel
came down at certain time and stir the water; the first one in would be healed. It was therefore
uncertain of, who would be healed that day. The man laid waiting and Jesus seeing him and
knowing his story said to him, “Do you want to be made well?” Instead of saying yes, he made
the excuse that someone always got in before him. Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and
walk”. As humans we always find someone else to blame for our problems. Remember the story
of, Adam and Eve, they too blamed others for their disobedience. The man did as he was told
and he was healed immediately but did not know who it was that healed him. Afterwards Jesus
found him in the temple and said to him, “see you have been made well, sin no more or worse
will come upon you.”
There are a few spiritual concepts in this story; Those people might have been more mentally
paralyzed than physical, thus they lost mobility. When you hold on to sin it becomes an
addiction. No one comes to God unless God draws them. The Holy Spirit drew that man so he
was able to say Jesus forgave and healed me.
Are we spiritually paralyzed? Jesus is waiting at the sheep gate, this gate he opened is called
‘Calvary’, not a gate of uncertainty; that has a fountain, drawn from Immanuel’s vein; this blood
washes and cleanse us. It reaches the highest mountain and flows to the lowest valley.
Sometimes we forget how powerful our God is.
people need to feel loved, appreciated, and accepted by others. We were created to love
A Mighty Fortress is our God. He never fails.
