For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. -2 Tim. 4: 6-8
We regret to announce the recent passing of Rev. Dr Irvin L. George, the late Pastor of St Paul’s Progressive Methodist Church in Bronx, NY. Earth has lost a soldier, heaven has gained a child of God.
Rev. Dr. Irvin L. George has served Ebenezer Wesleyan Methodist Church in the ministry of the Word and Sacraments in years gone by. He was a man of deep insight, integrity and great passion for the ministry and the people of God. He would be usually accompanied by his dear wife and partner for 62 years – Mrs. Lavina E. George. They were a couple whose profound love for God as well as for each other was very evident in the way they showed that love.
Rev. George served Ebenezer on many occasions, especially during the years the church did not have a Pastor. We remember his deep understanding of the Word as well as his ability to apply the same to our day-to-day life experiences.
Rev. Irvin George was a man of deep spirituality, a great friend and mentor and one who always had an encouraging word to share.
Upon learning of his passing, our hearts were saddened, but we believe that God saw that his time was ended and decided to receive Rev. George in his everlasting arms.
WE at Ebenezer thank God for such an obedient servant and pray for his wife and family, the ministerial staff, officer and members of the St. Paul’s Progressive Methodist Church and all others who were touched by this solitary life.
Be it resolved that the Pastor, officers and members of the Ebenezer Wesleyan Methodist Church do tender their sincere condolences and prayers to the family as well as St. Paul’s at this time.
