Sometimes in life because things do not go our way, we get frustrated and want to run far away. Peter in this story, felt a little frustrated and depressed after Jesus’ death, so he decided to go fishing. Fishing is like life experiences, in Vs3, it is said “That night they caught nothing”. They felt that their hope had died, even though they were experienced fishermen, they caught nothing. Sometimes God has to show us that it is not by our might, but by His power. He is in control.
God wants us to posses the virtues of patience, honesty, commitment and dedication because He is preparing us with the necessary equipment to be where He wants us to be.
God is faithful and provides for His children. In this story :
a) Jesus gave His disciples food: vs. 5, says that when in need He will provide food. When God asks a question, He wants us to think first and then answer, He is looking for good results. His disciples did not recognize Him, but God wanted to turn around the situation for them, they were discouraged because they did not catch anything, but He turned their sorrow into joy by allowing them to catch many fish. He provides when you least expect it.
b) Jesus gave them Fellowship: Vs. 9, He invited them to have fellowship with Him, they saw fish and bread already prepared for them when they returned. He also wants us to spend some time with Him in fellowship and prayer.
c) Jesus called them to Ministry: Vs. 15 – 19, especially Peter who betrayed him not once, but three times. Jesus said, “Feed my sheep”, and asked him three times, “Do you love me?. Jesus also called Peter especially, to Martyrdom.
THOUGHT: Life is like fishing. It requires patience, persistence and faith.
