This text signifies a great triumph filled with great joy. Jesus said to His disciples, "Let us pass over to the other side," but as they did so, Jesus went to sleep and then a storm arose. It also teaches us to trust in Jesus because He is able to calm the storms in our lives, when we call on His name. In this life there are storm-waves and trouble of various kinds, e.g. pain in the body, lack of money, broken relationships, family disputes, etc. that will bring us to our knees. He is considered to be the Master of the sea, who is always there when we call on Him. Jesus said to let us go to the other side; a call to get up out of the mire and seek a better situation. Tragedy and triumph can exist at the same time, Jesus was asleep in the storm, His disciples were panicking, and asked "care you not that we perish"? Even after He calmed the seas they were still afraid, so in life we feel God is asleep when our storms arise and there seems to be no help, sometimes it is a test of our ability to rise. God wants us to think not as a Storm Watcher but a Calm Embracer.
Sometimes when we call on Jesus, it appears as though He is not listening, but He is testing us, if you bang long enough He will answer. As a Church we need to embrace the Almighty and powerful Christ, trust Him and put away negativity. It is not the outside storm that is the problem but the inside where the raging hurricane is situated and needs to be fixed. He wants us to reflect on the beautiful things surrounding us, appreciate the gifts and do not be consumed with the wordly things.
THOUGHT
Are you a storm watcher consumed by the elements? We must not allow our young people to be inheritors of negativity.
