To Heal Or Not To Heal

In the Movie “Chariots of Fire”, the main character Eric Vidal, Olympic winner held on to his conviction about the Sabbath and refused to participate in games on that day. Through the ages there has always been disagreement as to what day is really the Sabbath. What day we choose as the Sabbath, should be dedicated to the Lord, and set aside to worship Him. Jesus met with strong criticism when he allowed the disciples to pluck ears of corn to eat on the Sabbath day because they were hungry; and as he healed the man with the withered hand he was confronted by the Pharisees. He therefore asked “if any among you that has one sheep and it fell into a pit on the Sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it and lift it out? How much then is a man better than a sheep? wherefore it is lawful to do well on the Sabbath day”. (verse11).
Let us think of what the Sabbath is:-
(1) How important is the Sabbath? In some churches you are looked on as a pagan if you do not observe Saturday as the Sabbath. The Jews have their own concept of the Sabbath, the time of day and what is considered work. Christians choose Sunday the first day of the week, the day when Jesus rose from the dead, a celebration of life and victory. (Colossians2: 16&17).
(2) The Sabbath is more important than we think. Therefore we must (a) Do as much as we can on the other days, God did. (b) Observe the day chosen as the Sabbath. God rested. (c) Limit recreational activities; (d) Work on making the Sabbath day special.
God is priority, He established a day of rest. The Pharisees were rigid in their views of the Sabbath. We don’t have to be as rigid, but we must appreciate the importance of putting aside a day to worship and honor God.

THOUGHT
God established the day for our benefit, It was made for us and not us for it.
