When God says, “Do Not Fear!

We all have the inclination to be fearful of something. In Biblical times people were also fearful, but for us in today’s world, especially around Christmas time, some people tend to be fearful and many people get depressed. In today’s meditation there are three instances where angels encouraged persons to not be afraid:
1) St. Luke 1: 30, the angel appearing to Mary, “Do not be afraid”- only Believe”. Mary knowing that she was a virgin, was terrified when told that she was about to bear a child. She was not expecting that kind of news. Why did Jesus choose Mary, an ordinary woman to be the mother of the Son of God? God does things contrary to what we believe or think, we often question OUR GOD, but He wants us to be of a humble and willing heart, to Listen, Believe and Fear not.
2) Matthew 1: 18 -25 the angel appearing to Joseph – “Do not be afraid”- Only obey. Joseph could have put Mary away, because he felt embarrassed or dis-respected, but he chose to obey and acknowledge that God is greater than he is. He listened to the angel and humbled himself.
3) Luke 2: 8- 11 The angel appearing to the shepherds “Do not be afraid”-You are important to God. God chooses simple people to do his bidding. He also chose fishermen as his disciples. Let us be willing and humble for when God calls us to do his work. Let us be at a place of peace and quiet so that he can speak to us.
THOUGHT
Seek after God’s peace with prayer and supplication. Obey and Believe His Word.
