SERMONETTES: “Be Prepared for such a time as this” by Levineda Pope.
“Trusting God in difficult times.” by Kenya Haynes.
OUTLINE: Be Prepared For Such a Time as this: The book of Esther is filled with powerful
lessons that are still relevant to our lives today. My focus is about ESTHER, she exemplifies the
manifestation of God’s will in our lives when we are obedient. Esther was instrumental in saving her
Jewish people from their demise. God chose her because:
She had Faith: There have been times in our lives when our faith was tested, and if we are honest,
wavered. She was faced with a task of saving her people but there were risks involved and she
could be killed because of the custom of the day. Esther put fear and doubt aside, using her faith
she found a way to face the King and pleaded her cause. With God at our side we can stand up to
any circumstance. 1 Corinthians 16:13 tells us (to) be watchful, stand firm and be strong. Ephesians
6:16 says, take the shield of faith with you, with which you can prevail against the flaming arrows of
Esther was prayerfully prepared: Understanding the magnitude of her task, she fasted and prayed
and prepared for the ordeal. Christians need to be prayerfully prepared. We live in a time when
chaos and tragedies bombard the world. We must be prepared to listen when God speaks to us.
Esther was strategic in her planning. If we as Christians can plan like Esther we will know when to
move. Esther waited for the right time to approach the King. Because of her qualities she was
successful. Friends be mindful that God has the last say in every situation.
Trusting God In Difficult Times:
Throughout the bible, we read about people who trusted God to bring them out of difficult
situations. Men like Adam, Moses, Peter, Paul, and the Prophets. Proverbs 3:5 tells us to trust in the
Lord with all our hearts and lean not on our own understanding. Psalm 56:3-4 tells us when we
afraid to put our trust in God. The prophet Jeremiah encouraged the people when they were going
through difficult times with the words of God, letting them know that he is aware of the plans He
had for them; plans of hope and love; love that cast out fear. James told his listeners that the
difficult times they were facing can be overcome by believing that everything good comes from
God; He saves us by His own free will. He gave Salvation which produces new life. Our old lives were
filled with sin which leads to death. True life comes from God.
